out of the mouth of the pill
if library books are any indication, the pill is destined for a future in zoology, vet care or dinosaur studies. there has yet to be an creature too small, too big, too creepy or too extinct. venus fly traps? check. megladons? check. baby cheetahs? check. you name it, it has come home in his backpack.
as i was tucking him into bed a couple weeks ago, amazed that the boy stink of summer had been washed away, replaced with the sweet smell of soap and lotion, i talked to him about what he wanted to be when he grew up and what i thought he would be great at. he is tough, fearless, can eat earthworms when needed, and extremely compassionate. he is a reactor whose spectrum of emotions is vast and intense. he is still learning to stop and think things through before acting. he has a conscience. he tests my patience and sometimes the limits of my love for him. he has never gone to bed angry with me. and...he is hilarious.
all of these qualities suit him for a life insides the books he is drawn to. as i told him all this and about vets and zoologists, he paused and responded, "so i shouldn't rap with sister then?"
giggles. good night.

do love me a good burger
i was just over on my cousin britt's food blog, skinny bovines kitchen (over there--->), and was reading about her vegan energy bars. i just had to giggle when she states that she could never really be a vegetarian and does "love me a good burger". it reminded me, cue salivatoin, of the grilled burger that i had been craving for weeks that i finally indulged in last night. thanks to ripp dragging me on a two hour bike ride, it was well deserved and quickly ingested. i just have to share.
with the weather turning and your grill eager to light up, consider a twist on your old favorite. grilled burger, toasted bun, carmelized onions, melted blue cheese (just a little for me, thanks) and bacon!!! combined with a cold drink, good friends and some seriously funny stories...heaven on my back patio.

baseball season
the spring baseball season officially opened last saturday, with an opening ceremony and our first snack stand purchase of nachos with extra jalapenos. sure to be the first of many. it was fun to watch all the kids run the bases in their shirts and hats, but watching these three darlings stroll the park was almost more fun.

easter
easter almost didn't come to our home this year, as our neighbor hosted the best-easter-party-ever at her home on the saturday before. not only was the weather beautiful, her yard was magnificent alongside an enormous gaggle of chickens whose clucking set the mood.
cotton candy+the easter bunny+friends+1 million eggs=a very happy easter!
