Wasatch Back '08

The Wasatch Back, 180 mile relay race, is officially in the books. When I have had time to hydrate, sleep, organize pictures and rehab my missing toenail, giant blister pinky toe, I will expand on the experience. Will I do it next year?...I won't even consider it until my toe stops throbbing.

CoUsIn CoUrTnEy Is So CoOl!

Jake's sister, Doeni, and her two boys came to visit for the weekend all the way from Dallas. Even better, his neice Courtney took the shuttle down from BYU-Idaho so that we could all hang out together. It was so much fun to see family that we have not seen for almost 3 years. Having my house full of teenagers was eye-opening, but they are great kids and were so wonderful with Elli and Will. In fact, Elli and Will packed suit cases the morning they left and would have gone with them in a heartbeat.

Courtney, who belongs to Jake's older brother Austin, is an amazing talent. She definitely has the art gene. She spent the weekend making us all up and solidified her spot as one of the coolest cousins ever!

Cache Valley Biathlon

Andi and I competed in the Cache Valley Biathlon on Saturday. Here are the pros and cons.

Pros:
-The weather was beautiful!
-I was already in running shape thanks to my Wasatch Back training.
-Andi was already in riding shape thanks to her 104 mile ride last Saturday. Nice job!
-Only having to run 5 miles and doing 8:15 miles.
-Andi only have to ride 16 miles. No problem.
-Coffee, again, with my super good friend.
-Having my kids and hubby cheer me on.
-Getting a ribbon (see cons)
-Finishing 2nd overall for women's teams!
-My sister in law finishing 2nd overall for an individual team (she did it all, fast!).

Cons:
-Seeing Andi's face when she found out how serious some people take it and realizing that I was not totally honest with her when I said it would just be a fun, easy ride.
-Nervous diarrhea. For half of our team...and not my half.
-Nasty grape goo that I wanted to try and burped up for 5 miles.
-Not hanging around to get our own ribbons, since we had no clue we had actually done real well. Thanks Wendy for representing!
-Having our names mentioned in the paper.
-People asking about it for 4 days. I didn't know people really read the Herald Journal sports section.

No westerns!

I really hate western movies. Jake has been trying for the last week to get me to watch 310 to Yuma. He tried again tonight...he can not even get the DVD in the player before I am out of the room. I just want to go on the record as saying that western movies may be my least favorite genre to watch. What's yours?

I did what?

I made a deal with myself that if I took part and finished my legs of the Wasatch Back, I would never run again. So what did I do this morning? Went ahead and signed up for the Moab half marathon. I have heard people say that running can become an addiction and I never really could understand that line of thinking...until now . I am not saying that I am addicted and have found a new purpose in life, I am just going to wait until October 20th to hang up my running shoes. For some reason, the thought of not having anything to train for after June 21st was making me a little sad. I am not disciplined enough to just get up and put my body through 8 or 10 miles of pain for fitness. But having something to look forward to, and swimsuit season, is making me totally excited about running. So...what will happen on October 20th? Stay tuned.
