a good read...and eat!

Everyday Food, Great Food Fast. Another Martha Stewart wonder.
I have had a subscription to this magazine for a few months and have only been disappointed by one recipe that I have tried. But seriously, who can get fresh scallops in Utah? So after last weeks four great dinners, all courtesy of the mag, I went for the whole book. It is AWESOME!
It is divided up into the four seasons which I love because it uses the produce that is currently in season. And just like the magazine, most recipes are quick and don't use a laundry list of ingredients. So if you are looking for a new cookbook, full of fast and healthy dinners, and just in time to help ease the hecticness of the new school year, I strongly recommend this one.

house tag: what my house looks like right now

I have come across a couple of these 'tags' lately, but this variety, tagged by my Aunt Heather, seemed the most exciting. Especially since I spent a good part of yesterday cleaning my house. Yeah!
kitchen sink: Because of the window, I couldn't get a great shot. But thanks to that window, I have a lovely view while working.
toilet: By far the cleanest in the house. The other is now scattered with hair accessories and the bsmt bathroom is covered in Texas paraphenlia. Ew!
fridge: Inside and Out
laundry room: In pretty good shape. Still recovering from being completely neglected last week and back-to-school shopping.
what kids are doing now: Will is also recovering. Elli is currently completely her first day as a full-day 1st grader and will need a bit of recovery herself come 3:20.
favorite room: For obvious reasons. Both mentionable and unmentionable. Even left my new cookbook, Jake's boxers and some Old Navy loot in the picture. Didn't want to skew the results.
dirtiest room: Is an entry a room? Who cares! Even after yesterdays clean sweep, the perpetually dirty spot in our house didn't disappoint. And I know that there are solutions for this type of clutter, stores devoted to it, but I don't want something in the way. I'd rather break my ankle on a pile of shoes.
closet: Could be bigger, have better lighting and more designer duds...not really.
self portrait: Yeah, I debated this one. I took a page out of Heather's book and opted for a reflection shot. A straight forward shot was just too scary. At the current time, even though they are need of a little TLC, my mani-pedi was a close second.
Whew! That took a little energy. I tag whoever wants to the spend the time. I will check up on your blog.

the work crew and "that one week"

Last week, I put in approximately 37 hours of work. This comes to about 37 more than the week before. This included set-up, tear down, bartending (just one night) and florals for 3 corporate events and 5, yes 5, weddings. Although completely exhausting, who could really complain about spending the day with this awesome crew.

Me, Jami, Andi (da' boss), Nick, Haley

Will and I are getting in some bonding time this weekend since Elli joined Jake on a work trip to San Antonio, Texas. A short hour drive from his parents in Fredericksburg, where she is hanging out with her Nana and Papa while he gets in a quick meeting. All alone. With no stinky, obnoxious little bros. Meanwhile, Will and I have spent the morning just hanging out as well. Sleeping in (a little), playing knights, and watching Go, Diego! I jumped in the shower and when I came downstairs, he had eaten an apple, poured some milk and made himself breakfast. A turkey sandwich on a hamburger bun, since he couldn't find the bread. I love self-sufficient 3, almost 4, year-olds.

Today I turned 30. I thought I would feel old and stiff, but not so much.
