trends in 2011

along with the new year, a sense of calm seems to have found its way into our home. calm mornings, calm evenings, mostly calm bedtimes and relative calm all in between.

chloey is an excellent example of how to be calm. just ask her how it felt to lay on her bed from nine to five yesterday.

it was my plan, just like last year, to continue on with a new tradition of writing down our goals for the new year and wrapping it up all pretty in a jar. tucked away in the cupboard to be opened next new years, and read when we replace them with new ones. we still haven't got to that... and i think i may scrap that tradition all together.

resolutions are pressure and self-defeating. and actually putting them on paper...ugh! the more you try to live up to the goals, the more you get lost in the process and the worse you feel about the failure.

as i thought about the coming new year, at the top of my list was capturing a sense of calm inside our home. i was unsure of how to go about making his happen, but was sure that if we resolved to do it as a family, it would happen. surely if i discussed this with ripp, we could come up with many ways to make it happen. surely if i told the kids to calm down, it would happen. surely if i googled "how to bring calm to your home", i would find resources to make it happen.

instead i did none of this and it's weird what has happened. calm found us. hope it stays.

on a completely unrelated note-did you know justin bieber has the most watched you tube video of all time? what? how? why? don't get it.

I loved it that peace just found you. I think that must be how it works--kind of like grace. You can't be grabby about it, you just wait patiently and it finds you.

Also, Justin Bieber is HOT in our household. We are so not surprised his YouTube stats are so good. Enjoy your peace before Elli becomes too attached to pop culture!
