a little desert for the soul

48 hours in the desert sun is all it takes to lift my spirits. something about the clean air, bright sun and warm sand. i am sure having my family all together, unburied from feet of snow, helps.
you see, ripp has a business venture that has turned us into a weekender family. we say goodbye early monday and welcome him home sometime friday. when he is in town, his hours are long and his mind overly preoccupied. i was more than happy to whisk him from the airport for the drive south. getting him away from work pressure and home responsibility gives us his full attention. makes the drive well worth it.
plus, with the kids declaring this their racing year, we had a bike race to get to. the season opener went well, with e finishing very well and the pill proud to have finished. when your shoelace winds around your pedal and you take a slight detour through a mud hole, it is sometimes more than you had bargained for. but what makes us parents the happiest, is that at this stage they are just happy to be there.
